BMSB Season Update - Fumigation requirements from USA & Canada to Australia & New Zealand

13/7/2020

Dear Value Customer,

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment as well as the Biosecurity New Zealand have updated their guidelines and instructions regarding fumigation to prevent brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) infestations.

These guidelines are effective from September 1, 2020, through May 31, 2021, ex the United States and Canada to Australian territory and New Zealand

Effective dates are based on the following:

  • Begin date: vessels departing at United States or Canadian ports on or after September 1, 2020.
  • End date: vessels arriving at Australia or New Zealand ports on or before May 31, 2021.

These guidelines introduce higher inspection and certification requirements for target high-risk and risk cargoes from target high risk origin regions.

Responsibility for accordance with regulations and required treatment for cargo subject to these measures remains the duty of customer.

ANL requires fumigation certificates to be received prior to cut off for all open air containers (FR & OT) prior to cut off in the respective POL.

All costs associated with any delays to ANL vessels as a result of noncompliance to fumigation regulations will be to the account of the customer.
